Reminder to Journal Editors Re: Refereeing Knowledge

[ad_1]

A number of journal editors have emailed me responses to my request for knowledge concerning referee requests at their journals. For those who haven’t but, please not less than present a solution to this one query:

What share of the potential referees who you ask to referee a brand new submission agree to take action? Or, to get on the matter one other means, on common, what number of referee requests should you make per new submission?

[Jasper Johns, Numeral Series]

Some journals have supplied figures for the previous two years, others have accomplished so for some subset of that point, others have picked what they take to be a consultant pattern of papers and supplied info based mostly on them. I do know that the convenience of buying this info varies from journal to journal, so I’m not being too choosy in what I’m requesting. The thought is to assemble sufficient info from a large sufficient vary of journals to have the ability to get a way of whether or not there’s certainly a “refereeing disaster,” and if that’s the case, whether or not there are any patterns to it.

As I discussed within the earlier publish on this, once I report on this knowledge I can’t be revealing journal-specific knowledge, nor will I point out the titles of the responding journals with out first looking for permission to take action. Any info supplied shall be saved confidential. Please ship the data to me at [email protected]

Thanks.
